Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics - updated as new data is released
Currently, this site presents the 24th edition of Sourcebook, published in October 1997. Although the publication of Sourcebook is an annual event, its compilation is an ongoing process. As such, updates of tables and new data sources continually are received and prepared for presentation in the next edition. This site will be updated to reflect these new data as they will appear in the next edition, the Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics 1997, which will be published by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics, in the summer of 1998.

Bureau of Prisons
Crime and Justice Electronic Data Abstracts - Bureau of Justice Statistics
Contains aggregated data from a wide variety of published sources that are presented in spreadsheets to facilitate use with analytic software. These files contain thousands of numbers and hundreds of categories, displayed by jurisdiction and over time. Data comes from a variety of sources including BJS statistical programs (correctional populations, Federal case processing), the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program of the FBI (Index crime, homicide, and arrests), and the Bureau of the Census (population numbers and noncriminal justice information).

Uniform Crime Reports, 1995 +
Uniform Crime Reports, 1990-1995
This collection consists of four county-level data files. The first three provide arrests for Part I offenses (murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny, auto theft, and arson) and for Part II offenses (forgery, fraud, embezzlement, vandalism, weapons violations, sex offenses, drug and alcohol abuse violations, gambling, vagrancy, curfew violations, and runaways). The fourth file provides reported offenses (as opposed to arrests) for Part I crimes only. Two county population variables are included: one for total county population and the other for counties reporting six months or more of data. Provided by the University of Virginia Social Sciences Data Center.
